It was a magical moment for Jessica Barber, when Winnie the Pooh came by and interacted with her disabled 18-month-old son during their one-week family vacation in Disney’s World, Florida.
She recorded and uploaded the video to Facebook which has garnered more than 20 million views few days later.
Barber wrote in the Facebook post,”For those of you who have disabled children know the feel when people look but aren’t sure how to interact with your kiddo. This Winnie the Pooh melted my heart and knew exactly what to do! He spent 10+ minutes with our little guy and he loved every second of it. Thank you Pooh!”
In the video, Pooh bear lovingly nuzzled the boy’s face, stroking his hair and holding his arm.
Barber told Yahoo Lifestyle,”Winnie the Pooh hung out for ten minutes, he wouldn’t let go of our son’s hands. He really calmed him.”
Barber’s son who suffers from cerebral palsy was seen smiling and making facial expressions. The gentle bear seems to understand and nodded at what the little boy was trying to say to him.
Families with disabled child have a lot to deal with—the pressure, stress and judgements that are so often passed by those that do not understand.
They need space and support at critical points of time especially when there is a melt-down by the child. In these situations, ask simple questions such as, “What can I do to help?” would make a big difference to these families.
Watch how the tiny act of compassion has captured the hearts of thousands in the video below.
We love you, Pooh bear.
