Its founder, Tina Hay, came across the creative approach after she struggled in her finance class while studying for MBA at Harvard Business School.

Hay realized that her classmates who mostly came from banking and consulting backgrounds did not have problems with coursework while she struggled to grasp the financial concepts.

Thanks to her liberal arts background, Hay then started to sketch the concept to help her understand the concepts better.

“I think more visually,” Hay told Business Insider. “I’ve always put numbers into illustrations and understood them that way, especially finances and money.”

Hay did not stop at sketching when she graduated from Harvard Business School later as she continued to turn her ideas into Napkin Finance.

The multimedia company aims to introduce and educate the public about financial literacy in the simplest and most engaging ways through text, videos, and napkins.
