Jessica Satterfield and her husband are the proud parents of three adopted children but they were often stared at just because the children have brown skin compared to their white skin.
Just like any other family, they enjoy going out to park, beach, and restaurants together. Used to people staring at her diverse family, Satterfield found herself getting annoyed after an elderly man continued to stare for a very long time.
The family was at that time enjoying their burgers at a restaurant. After making her uncomfortable with his stare, Satterfield noticed that the old man suddenly approaching them.
Preparing for the worst, Satterfield prepared herself for an ugly confrontation.

As Satterfield feeling extremely tense, the old man reached out to touch her husband and said something she did not expect. The man shook her husband’s hand, said one sentence with his eyes full of tears and walked away immediately.
“I just wanted to tell you that you have such a beautiful family.”
When she heard his kind words, Satterfield couldn’t help but bursts into tears herself. Despite their different skin color, Satterfield believes that love has nothing to do with skin color but more about acknowledging love and care that the children deserve no matter their background.
Living in a diverse family, Satterfield always teaches her children one important lesson.
“Families don’t have to match to be a family. What makes a family is their love.”
