Hate cough syrup? Try this natural remedy of banana and honey to ease your cough


With the smell of smoke all over the place, air pollution or just a matter of aging, we can’t help to catch on cold sometimes, the one that is accompanied by endless cough and sneezing.

Coughing might be one of your body’s protective mechanism of cleaning up the respiratory tract but it can also be a sign of bronchitis and other health conditions. Experts explained that acute coughs last less than three weeks, while chronic coughs last more than two months.

Acute coughs may be caused by colds, flu, irritants and pneumonia while the chronic coughs are usually caused by allergies, asthma, bronchitis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease or postnasal drip.

If you’re tired of trying regular cough syrup all the time or just hate cough syrup in general, you might want to try this more natural way to soothe coughs.

Foreign media reported that natural drink made of banana and honey actually has the same effect as cold syrup and can effectively relieve cough.


  1. 2 ripe bananas
  2. 2 tablespoon of raw honey
  3. 400ml of water

Note: It’s better to use organic bananas and raw organic honey when making the syrup, but normal ones will do just fine too.


  1. Bring the water to boil and mash bananas with a wooden spoon.
  2. Add the water to your banana puree and let it cool for half an hour.
  3. Add honey and stir well.

Take 100ml of your banana cough remedy four times a day. Make sure to heat up the syrup before using it.

According to nutritionists, banana is an excellent sleep remedy as it helps to elevate serotonin level—helping you get better sleep at night. However, keep in mind that this only applies to fully ripe bananas.

Avoid unripe bananas and use those with brown spots on its skin.

Scientists have proven that the brown spots are actually a sign of the anticancer properties of bananas. Besides banana, honey is another great remedy for insomnia. Always use raw and unpasteurized honey, avoid the one that contains added sugar.
