Squid is a versatile ingredient and is used in many types of cuisines. Squid dishes are often referred to by their culinary name and that is calamari.

Here is a simple and delicious take on every crowd’s favorite calamari dish, the fried calamari rings. If you have guests coming over, this dish can be served as a great appetizer. If you want a crispy snack, this recipe will have you satisfied in no time.

This is what you will need:

  • 300 grams of squid
  • 3 tablespoons of corn starch
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of bread crumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cooking wine
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
  • 300 ml of vegetable oil

Step one: Clean and cut your squid into thin rings.

Step 2: Pat the rings dry.

Step 3: Season with salt and pepper. (You can add additional flavors according to your own taste)

Step 4: Prepare 3 plates for the battering process using corn starch, eggs and followed by breadcrumbs.

Step 5: Lightly toss your squid rings into the corn starch

Step 6: Then coat them in the egg.

Step 7: Finally, toss them in a generous layer of breadcrumbs.

Step 8: Once they’re all coated, they are ready to deep fry!

Step 9: Fry the battered calamari in either olive oil, palm oil or vegetable oil as these have high smoke points.

Step 10: Turn them over when the rings turn slightly brown.

Step 11: Take them out of the frying pan and serve with any condiment of your choosing.

Enjoy!
