Sea cucumbers are considered a delicacy in certain parts of the world but more people are consuming it because of its anti-cancer properties.
These marine animals with leathery skins that live on the ocean floor have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. Western researchers have taken an interest in this delicacy as they found that extracts from sea cucumbers have the ability to treat cancer cells.
Researchers at the Robert H. Lurie Cancer Center in Chicago had studied the effects of sea cucumber extract on pancreatic cancer in humans and found that it was able to stop the cancer cells from spreading.
They stated that pancreatic cancer cells started dying 5 minutes after exposure to the extract.
