As a popular bodybuilder who builds his fame through promoting a healthy diet, fitness, and active lifestyle, many of his fans were surprised when JZ Woo, a fitness guru from Taiwan, suffered a stroke in his 30s.
JZ Woo who is also known as Muscle Daddy among his fans is a household name in his country as a famous award-winning bodybuilder.
He is also a successful businessman and owns a gym, JZ Fitness, together with his wife, a fellow bodybuilder and fitness guru, Melody Wan
However, Woo’s life suddenly took an unexpected turn when he was taking a nap at home earlier this month.
Prior to the incident, he decided to take a nap after dropping his son off at his school. It was then that Melody realised there was something wrong with her husband and she immediately rushed Woo to the hospital.
Fortunately, Woo managed to get to the hospital in time where the doctors diagnosed him with a stroke

There was a dangerous blood clot in his brain’s blood vessel. As a result, Woo temporarily lost control of the right side of his body.
While the stroke may come as a huge surprise to his fans, Melody explained that Woo’s family has a history of excessive blood clotting
The fitness guru has lost several of his family members due to stroke and one of his relatives was only in his 20s.
According to Melody in her Facebook post, she admitted that it never came across her mind that such tragedy would befall on their family as they lead an active and healthy lifestyle
“We didn’t think about all that because we thought we were active, young and fit, and our medical check-ups didn’t show any problems,” Melody wrote.
“We would often work late and sacrifice sleep… We would sleep at 3 am, wake up at 6 am and take short naps during the day. In total, we slept less than six hours a day,” she added.
Following Woo’s stroke, Melody wrote that they are now making major changes to their lifestyle including going to bed at 9 or 10 pm and get a good night’s sleep instead of taking short naps during the day

The bodybuilder is now making a progress according to Melody and thanks to his fitness regime, Woo may make a swift recovery and regain his health soon.
Incorporating regular exercises and eating a balanced diet is important to living a healthy life but studies have shown that getting enough sleep also plays a crucial role to avoid non-communicable diseases like stroke.
In fact, sleeping less than six hours a day can increase one’s risk of getting a stroke, according to a study presented at the SLEEP 2012 conference

Many studies have also found a strong link between lack of sleep and increasing levels of stress hormones in the body that can lead to high blood pressure and risks of heart attacks. Therefore, you might want to prioritise getting enough sleep first before anything else.
