Realising the heartbreaking fates of dogs who are disabled or too weak to walk on their own, Malaysian couple decided to create special wheelchairs for disabled canines.
Dogs with disabilities are often euthanised or left abandoned on their own by the owner as taking care of disabled pets requires one to put extra care and attention to the animals.
However, this may no longer be the usual case when couple, Wong Che Wey, and his wife, Cheng Yee Leng, created a special wheelchair for disabled dogs to move by themselves.

What makes the wheelchairs even better, they are durable and long-lasting as they are made out of PVC pipes and plastic on top of the affordable price.

The innovative idea began when Wong came across a paraplegic dog named Frosty on Facebook.
Frosty who could not move his hind legs had to drag his legs around every time the dog wanted to move. Unfortunately, this had caused the dog to develop severe skin damage.
Wanting to give Frosty another chance at life, Wong decided to adopt him and help him find ways to move again.
“I was looking around for a dog wheelchair on the net, I found that they were all expensive and cost more than RM2,000 (US$ 483). Therefore I decided to build it myself,” he told SAYS.
The first wheelchair Wong created used PVC pipes for the frame, cloth for the harness, and foam or plastic for wheels.

The wheelchair proved to be helpful to Frosty to walk on his own again.

Since then, the couple has created over 150 wheelchairs for disabled dogs, dogs whose legs have been amputated and elderly dogs who are too old and weak to walk on their own.
According to Wong, he will do a trial run with the dog to see if having the wheelchairs will help them to walk again.

“I will seek for the owner’s advice to do a trial run with a towel, supporting the abdomen and seeing if the dog will or will not walk,” he said, adding that it “depends on the severity of its condition and how long it has not been standing or walking”.
Despite the wheelchair being custom-made to each dog, the wheelchair does not cost a fortune compared to other wheelchairs for pets as the price ranges between RM250 (US$60) to RM450 (US$108).

The special wheelchair is not only for dogs as Wong also creates wheelchairs for cats and rabbits who need a little bit of assistance when it comes to walking on their own.
