A few years ago, Rolls Royce introduced the Client Design Program. The Rolls Royce Coachbuild program allows clients to work with the company’s designers to build a car body with specialized functions and customized features that are according to the client’s specifications.
In 2020, Rolls Royce announced that the custom-built Boat Tail won the title of ‘The World’s Most Expensive Custom Car’ priced at US $26,622,976.00 , and it is reportedly owned by entertainment couple Beyonce and Jay-Z.
In late 2021, the UK-brand luxury car maker announced that the second of 3 unique Boat Tail models was nearing completion at the time. By May of this year, the new model was displayed at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy.
Automobile enthusiasts will have to wait for a few more years for the third Rolls Royce Boat Tail model to be completed and launched at a car show. In the meantime, news broke out of a loving father who made a customized car, especially for his son, and it was made of wood.
A carpenter from Vietnam is a famous YouTuber with a channel named ND – Woodworking Art. He released a video of himself creating a replica of the famous Rolls-Royce Boat Tail…. made out of wood. It’s amazing! He is the same man who made the wooden Bugatti Centodieci for his son.
For his latest car, he made a mini version of the $28-million Rolls Royce Boat Tail with an accommodation space at the back that opens like butterfly wings. The compartment at the back of the car can fit tools, small bags, and food and drink containers, among others.
The YouTube video shows how the man built the wooden luxury car in 68 days and when he and his son rode the finished model around town. He began by making the floor with wood, added 2 axles, then placed a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels with a chain-drive. The four black wheels were made from solid wood with creases carved using a chisel.
Slowly and carefully, the man installed the other necessary panels near the flooring with the help of a chainsaw and hand grinders. The hardworking carpenter also replicated the back deck of a Boat Tail model complete with a trunk whose hatch opens like butterfly wings.
Same as the original luxury car model, the wooden replica has 2 doors that open frontside and is complete with headlights and taillights. The mini-Boat Tail wooden replica also has the iconic ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ hood ornament to complete the Rolls Royce ‘look’.
Towards the end of the video, it shows the father and son duo riding the finished replica of the Rolls Royce Boat Tail around town for a little joyride. Although the replica is only made of wood, the man had made it look like a luxury car, and his son is very happy with the outcome.
