At this age of social media, people who are young and otherwise have been finding ways to communicate with family, friends, and other people through online messaging, sharing photos on the internet, and posting videos of their interests. However, the internet can do so much more than only share updates of one’s daily life. Social media and streaming sites can be used for business advertising, and it is a faster way of attracting consumers.
In 2019, a young man from Texas named Billy shared a post on his social media that attracted interested people. His father recently opened a donut shop. However, his business was not doing well on opening day. Billy posted photos of the exterior and interior sections of the shop, including a photo of his father standing in an empty store.

Sadly, on its first day, the store was empty, with no customers buying donuts. The shelves and cabinets were filled with various delicious fresh-cooked donuts, but no customers purchasing them. Looking very sad, his father was standing at the counter, his expression filled with helplessness. Billy uploaded the image to Twitter and captioned, “My dad is sad cause no one is coming to his new donut shop. 😭” He also shared other photos of the store.

Billy, who felt sad for his father and wanted to express his emotions on social media, did not expect his post to change the lives of his family in the following days. The photos he shared instantly went viral and garnered 750,000 likes and 330,000 retweets in just 5 days! Many customers (and possibly regulars) flocked to “Billy’s Donuts”, located in Missouri City, Texas, and most of them expressed their satisfaction. “Very delicious!”, “Super delicious!”

With assured customer satisfaction, coupled with testimonials from online netizens, the family’s donut shop started getting regular customers. Some of them took photos with Billy’s father, who did not hesitate to smile at the camera. He was finally happy about the continuing success of the family business.

A few days later, Billy shared the store’s Instagram page and thanked all the people who visited their shop. “Billy’s Donuts” already has 71,700 followers on Instagram. Billy uploaded a follow-up photo of himself and his Dad on Twitter, standing behind the counter. He wrote, “Just wanted to update yall! We completely sold out of donuts and kolaches! You are all amazing. I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and supporting local businesses. This means so much to my family. ❤️”

In addition to sharing one’s daily updates on social media, these sites can also be used for advertising businesses, family reunions and the like, or other announcements. Almost 90% of netizens are on social media, and messages shared will surely come across the globe, right in the comforts of your home or office.
