Former “Marvel’s Iron Man” star Robert Downey Jr. received high praises from critics for his superb acting skills as the high-ranking member of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, Lewis Strauss, in the highly-acclaimed movie, “Oppenheimer”. Recently, he celebrated his 18th wedding anniversary with his wife, Susan, an American film producer. They recreated their wedding photo the day they married, which garnered over 5 million Likes on Instagram.
Robert Downey Jr. often shared photos with his wife on social media and was not shy to display affection to her in public. The couple celebrated their anniversary by recreating a photo from the day they married, only this time, she is wearing a white T-shirt and holds a bunch of yellow sunflowers while Robert dons a yellow T-shirt. On his Instagram post, he captioned: “18 years, love still in bloom!!”
The couple has been through the ‘highs and lows’ of marriage and has been very supportive of each other. They show deep mutual affection through intimate body language, which the couple display even in public places. The wedding photo wherein Robert lovingly whispers in Susan’s ear is an image of pure love and devotion from a husband to a wife. They are said to be role models in showbiz, where news about celebrity divorces is plentiful.
Robert and Susan started dating when they met on the set of “Gothika” in 2003. At the time, Robert was facing a life of depression. His divorce from his ex-wife, Deborah Falconer, was still in the process, and he was undergoing drug addiction problems. When he met Susan, his life changed. Initially, Susan was hesitant and turned down Robert twice in fear that the relationship might not work through the completion of shooting because she claims, “He’s an actor, and I have a real job”. However, their relationship went public in the fall of 2003.
Robert credits his wife for helping him quit his alcohol and drug addiction habits, which he quit in 2003. Since then, some of his co-workers claimed that he was a joy to work with when he met Susan. “The old saying is true – behind every good man there’s an incredible woman,” Robert said. “I owe a huge amount – if not all – of my success to Susan. We make a great team, and all that luck I spoke about, that’s Susan.”
After dating for 2 years, the couple married in Long Island, New York in 2005. Robert Downey Jr.’s wandering heart finally landed in port.
Director Guy Ritchie describes the couple and says, “They are the greatest illustration of a symbiotic marriage that I’ve ever seen. It’s a real yin and yang, and it’s made him a joy to work with. Robert would be a pain in the ass if he didn’t have Susan to police him.”
Fans of the couple wish them more years together and more happiness and love to share with one another.
